How is support determined for a unit with an attached detachment? Does it go by the parent troop type or is it dependent on which troop is in the front rank?

This question came up over the weekend, a unit of mixed unit of elephants and regular LMI parent was trying to determine if it was supported. Other mixed units such as HC with a LI detachment, HCh with a LMI detachment can get into a similar pickle.

Also, for combat dice, if a unit that is mixed regular and irregular elements is in combat, how should the dice be thrown? We went with throwing a normal die (positive for irregular), a green averaging die (positive for regular), and a red averaging die (negative for both) but an equal case could be made for rolling separately for the regular and irregular troops.
