 |
|
Next year's theme has a boatload of armies as we're covering all the Byzantine lists and all of their enemies. I'm posting this early so as to give folks a jump on what they might want to use. I'm shipping off my 2nd generation (still old) Minifig Byzantines to Fernando so I can play either Maurikian or Thematics in 25mm.
The "2nd edition" of Dark Age Warrior obviously has updated Byzantine lists. By Cold Wars 2011, we'll have the draft version of Holy Warrior "2nd edition" available as well. Army lists in DAW and HW must come from the newer books, not the old ones.
And now for something completely different. Every theme brings out people who pick *the* army that unbalances the entire period, thus, said army runs roughshod over everybody else or everybody else brings that army as well. In an effort to mitigate this somewhat, we're going to handicap the lists and otherwise put few restrictions on any given list. This is Derek's brainchild; he's gonna run it at a Derekcon over the next 6 months so there might be some fine tuning. But, as it stands right now, the point values for certain armies will be changed.
First, the overall list of theme armies:
Imperial Warrior
17) Nobades (Nobades only)
19) Later Moorish
20) Alan (No Tartars)
27) Sassanid Persian (No Kushans)
29) Gepid
35) African Vandal
36) Late Visigothic
Dark Age Warrior
4) Merovingian Franks (No Saxons, Visigoths, Romano-Gallic)
5) Italian Ostrogothic
10) Early Lombard (No Franks)
11) Early Bulgar
12) Early Byzantine
13) Slav
14) Avar
15) Arab Conquest
16) Arab Imperial
17) Khazar
18) Carolingian Frank (No Saxons, Bretons)
19) Maurikian Byzantine
22) Early Serb/Croatian
23) Italian Lombard
24) Thematic Byzantine
25) Muslim Africa/Sicily
26) Magyar
28) Pecheneg
30) Russ
Holy Warrior
1) Bagratid Armenian
2) Nikephorian Byzantine
3) Early Hungarian
4) Arab Dynasty
9) Seljuq Turk (No Ghaznavids, Qarakanids, Il-Khanids)
10) Cuman
11) Cilician Armenian (Early Period only; no Crusaders)
14) Komnenan Byzantine (No Crusaders)
16) Georgian (No Crusaders)
20) Serbian (No Tartars)
21) Early Ottoman Turk
22) Later Ottoman Turk (No Tartars)
23) Ayyubid Egyptian
27) Romanian Frank (no SHK)
28) Catalan Company
31) Later Bulgar (no Golden Horde)
32) Nicaean/Epirote/E Palaeologan Byzantine (no SHK; no Golden Horde)
33) L Palaeologan/Trapezuntine Byzantine (no SHK; no Ilkhanids)
34) Later Hungarian (Early Period only; no SHK)
35) Wallachian/Moldavian (no Hungarians, Poles, Tartars)
36) Albanian (no SHK; no Venetians, Neapolitans)
Feudal Warrior
8) Siculo-Italian Norman
Now for the handicapping. Unless otherwise listed hereafter, army size is the usual 1600 points. Army sizes differ as follows:
1680 pts:
Nobades
Later Moorish
African Vandal
Cuman
1520 pts:
Lusignan Cypriot
Later Hungarian
Wallachian/Moldavian
1440 pts:
Sassanid Persian
Theme Rules:
X Rule 6.45 (EHC Skirmishing) will NOT be used. Byzantine cav in many lists will be covered by their own rules which preclude the need for 6.45.
Fire Syphoneers/Naptha bombers can cause a waver with 2 CPF to an enemy of appropriate troops (most close or loose order
foot) - like handgunners or artillery. Look at page 91 (11.1), 6th bullet. Insert ", Fire Syphoneers/Naptha bombers" after "and/or artillery". We'll make an X Rule out of this at some point.
Barbarian Foot Rules in effect.
Two additional rules we ran at Cold Wars in the context of Barbarian Foot Rules but will apply across the board:
-Willing close order Irr foot can counter-charge impetuous foot if not in Shieldwall
-Eager close order Irr foot who counter-charge can be impetuous if not in Shieldwall

Yo Derek
The truth is finally out. It is true that Belisarius was my great great grandfather and it is a little known fact that my grandfather fought under Nicophorus Phocus and it is family secret that my father died with The Emperor Constantine Paleologus at the gate of Constantinople.
Also, Robert, unfortunately, it is not for want of a ride that I might not be able to get to H-Con. Thank you for the invite. I do appreciate it. But I will try to get there.
I will tell my wife that H-con is a family trip.

The catalan company - allows HC to be HK- will this apply to other lists that include a catalan ally general?
All the best

If the Catalan ally-gen in that specific list is allowed an upgrade to HK, then sure. If not, then no.
Am I missing something here?

Scott
The catalan HC upgrade to HK is in the errata for the list - I do not see it in the errata for any of the other lists, and 1)was not sure if that was an oversight, 2) the assumption was that if the main list had a change it carried over to the lists use as an ally, or 3) that the Catalans dropped their armour on their way out of town to their primary role as a mercenary company?
The second is where my mind would go but I would hate to use an illegal list when asking was all that was required.

Ah, okay, now I get it.
Go with what's literal in the list, ie., they left to fight as mercenaries so they could afford to go home and purchase armor.

Made some changes to the event listing: Theme Rules.
Don't forget that terrain at Hcon for *all* events will be preset. Still not sure about deployment.

This is beneficial because it forces players to 'balance' their armies (e.g., a cav army might need more LI in antiicpation of dense terrain). |

This may give me a chance to run the thousands of arab figures I have in 15mm.
This should be fun.
