What happens when a two-element cavalry unit, with SHK front and HC rear dismounts? As I understand the rules the HC dismounts as half it's elements.
How is a half element represented on the table? Are the horses represented?

| I am by no means an expert - so wait for other clarification - but I dont believe they can dismount - no single element units allowed unless specified (it was for Elephants for a while) - so you get one for the SHK - and none for HC - but dieng to see the answer from others |

Correct...unless a general (who can be a lone staff element) you can't dismount a 2E unit of SHK/HC...the HC go 'poof'.
You could dismount a 3E unit of SHK/HC/HC...but you'd end up, generally, with SHI 2HCW / HI LTS,Sh...and LTS can't fight from a 2nd rank over 2HCW...so...we generally never dismount knight units with sergeants.

| So is against the rules to dismount a 2E Unit with SHK/HC or does it result in a 1E "unit" of SHK? or perhaps a 1E body that does nothing? |

Don't have my rules with me but pretty sure 1E non-generals are prohibited in 1 or 2 places...check dismounting and section 2. |

Derek was correct  ...
"As an exception to the normal rules for unit size, a dismounted unit may have a size of one element."
Finally got around to my rules.
Rob is not correct as the restriction on declaring charges applies only to independent staff elements. 2.513 "An independent staff element cannot declare charges unless it is joined to a non-artillery unit."
Also, 6.161, those eligible to charge, does not prohibit this type of body from charging...so it can charge.
