I am updating the rule book (don't get me wrong, I don't read the rules)
But if I need to hand the rules to someone who does know. I need the rules
Updated.....
the one 9.23(page 83)
It says replace the whole Paragraph ( the one with "JLS")
But I can't figure out how far down the column to go. AND don't say the end of the paragraph.
It is not as clear as that.
I know it starts at "(JLS) A second rank of foot armed with Jls, not......."
but where does it end.
If you could tell me where it ends it would be VERY HELPFUL.

I admit this is a complicated replacement and it took us a long time to get the wording to where we thought it should be with several rounds of back and forth.

That said...as follows incorporating clarifications:
9.22 WEAPONS ENTITLED TO FIGHT
The text after JLS : should read "Foot armed with SA, LTS, HTW or 2HCW, or 1HCW and mounted armed with SA, are eligible to use JLS as well as such weapons, regardless of whether they also have a missile weapons. JLS cannot also be used as a hand to hand weapon by troops armed with P, L, or 2HCT unless a List Rule exception is made."

9.23 RANKS AFTER THE FIRST ELIGIBLE TO FIGHT
Remove everything from "(JLS) A second rank of foot armed..." to "In some situations, a JLS armed..., but may be able to due to its other weaponry."

Replace that text with the following:
"(JLS) A second rank of foot armed with JLS, not eligible to fight with another weapon, behind a front rank of foot, cavalry or chariots armed with any weapons, fights at half effect. An exception may be made on the basis of a List Rule. Troops armed with JLS not eligible to fight with another weapon fight using the approriate crew or 'other' column. They may receive a JLS+ (see 9.3)."

9.3 ELIGIBILITY OF WEAPONS FOR USE
Remove everything from "(JLS+) The weapon factor bonus for..." to "...bonus in subsequent bounds unless one of the above conditions is met."

Replace that text with the following:
"(JLS+) The weapon factor bonus for a figure armed with JLS and eligible to fight (9.23) always applies at first contact to all figures in the first rank and up to half of the figures in the second rank. This is true even if more than half of the JLS-armed figures in the second rank are eligible to fight for other reaons (e.g., on account of the tactical situation or a List Rule). In subsequent bounds of a combat, the JLS+ bonus does not apply to troops also armed with other HtH weapons (other than inherent SA and 2HCW) unless:
- Fighting against elephants
- Pursuing
- Used by chariot or elephant crew."

So let it be written, so let it be done.

I would certainly pay for a pdf version of the updated rules and bind them myself. I am sure others would as well.

That being said I have updated my rule book by either writing in the rules changes in the various spots or have cut and taped the new paragraphs into the rule book. This is a cumbersome task that will take you a few hours to do but in order to have the current rules at hand one must do this.

The Black rule book has become so outdated with all the rules addendums it would not be worth it to purchase the rule set and then spend the time to update it - a new person to the hobby is just not going to do that.

Since I am Kaesermeister's shield bearer, I totally agree. My rule book is all pasted over.
I don't have 2cents but I am only worth 1 cent.
