| I was wondering how critical the depth of a base is? I'm going to be doing some close order Medium Infantry which calls for a 60mm x 20mm base. I'm using Victrix figures and there really isn't any way I can fit them on a 20mm deep base. 30mm will work. Is that acceptable? Is that extra 10mm of depth really going to affect anything? |

Unfortunately it will, as a unit's bases depth effects how deep it ultimately is, which effects how much space it take up, especially when moving other than straight ahead.
Also, you'd have a longer flank with deeper bases, also not great.
Again, Scott's lament about 28+mm figures applies here, hard to fit some four to a stand foot on 60x20. |

But would an increased base depth give ME any advantage of any sort? If not then I can't see it as an issue. I don't care if it gives my opponent some microscopic advantage |

Well, most of the problems would be yours.
I think the main issue for opponents would be mis-identifying those troops as regular loose order foot instead of close order foot.
Your opponents would also ask the referee whether the extra depth is 'real' and enables greater flank contact for them, or not. |
