Those who have been at the last few HMGS conventions have probably seen me struggling to get my Late Imperial Roman army to work. I'm convinced they can win (somehow) and I put about 100 hours into painting them, so I'm trying to find a list that covers the bases and can win, or at least not be turned into jelly by Turn 3, and am looking for feedback and advice on the current attempt.
I have stripped out most of the tempting LIR unusual stuff (mixed sling/crossbow LI, Alans/Huns, light bolt shooters on carts) to try to get a balanced, workable army out. The working theory is that this list pushes forward aggressively, trying to decisively beat the enemy lights with its own quality lights and force a confrontation with the close order foot. There is four unit cavalry reserve of what good mounted is available, and the chariots to mix in with the close order foot line in an attempt to keep loose order foot and too bold cavalry honest.
