Yes, ideal types seem to be things like 16 man units of Irr D LI B. 16 Irr C
 LI S,Sh front rank, B second rank. 12 Reg C LI B,Sh/B. 4 Reg B LI
 JLS,Sh....and some others.

We're talking about vastly different uses, though.

Irregular missile based units start basically in the position they'll occupy
most of the game, and move forward with their marches. Wheeling cuts down
their movement quite a bit...and you can end up with some figures in good
shooting range, with other out. These units don't do much contracting or
expanding, either. Entering skirmish reduces that move to 40p also. Still,
they cheaply project good shooting, and if front rank shielded and not
entirely Irr D can charge many other light infantry away.

Regular light infantry have different uses. They are far more maneuverable,
and small units are cheaper. 4 man units can easily be force marched to stop
enemy marches and allow other troops in your army to march into position, or
 terrain.

12 man missile firing light infantry can start in column, march as needed,
then either expand out and still move 120p...or wheel either direction 120p
and turn, ending a full 3 elements wide.

A couple of last points from me:
Slingers tend to win light infantry shooting wars, and can even make things
difficult for reg loose infantry shooters, but they have only a range of
120p. Getting a long range shot against enemy mounted is why Irr D LI B are
 a good type of LI.

Note the approach move rules...if you can sneak a little light infantry unit
down the flank of your opponent's army, then arrange for it to be the
"closest enemy unit", your opponent's flank end unit is pretty much going to
have to either approach your LI, exposing itself to the rest of your army,
 or sit around and counter.

				| What about placing a small (4E unit perhaps) unit of
Shooting LI on the Flank and forward of a bigger unit?

Any shooting units in front of both would have to
 shoot at the LI right?
