Hello All,
New to the list and Warrior. Just digging out old figures after 10+
year hiatus and had a couple questions after finishing first read of
rules. My compliments FHE, very nice. Now to the questions.
1. In 14.43 it mentions temporary fortifications must be set up in
rear zone. Am I correct in assuming that list rule allowing wagon
laagers in forward supercedes that?
2. I understand that wagon defenders must be placed in base contact
to defend behind the laager. How about if they are going to defend
in the wagons? What about basing? Do you just balance the defending
elements atop the wagons? If one rank is defening in the wagons, can
second rank, behind wagons still fight assuming allowable weapons (B
or JLS?
3. Next question concerns list writing. Looking at 17.1, field
fortifications (I assume wagon laagers) are purchased after terrain
placement by deducting other unit points. I assume this means that
you have a list, and then a sub-list which you substitute if you buy
the laagers after checking out the terrain.
Thanks for any help. Just checking out Eastern European Armies.

Any list rule allowing TFs set up in the forward zone supercedes the base
rule.

There is only 'in' the wagons with Fighting Transport (ala Hussites). 99% of
wagon laager is an obstacle and you are set up behind them. They can be
based 1 element wide and as deep as necessary for the model. Obstacles have no
impact on second rank weapons.

Yes, or you can just buy the laager straight up.

What about Pecheneg list mentioning high wheeled wagons which they fought
from? If they are allowed to fight from them, would they be allowed to fight
from them on other lists such as the Early Bulgars, and how would they be
mounted?

The text says the wagon laager can have 'Wagon Defenders'. In cases like this,
you may place an element 'in' the wagon (for aethetics) with any second rank
behind - in this case, the laager remains just an obstacle. It is NOT fighting
transport (and never is unless so costed and listed) and the troops do not use
the fighting transport rules. It is as thought that element 'in' the wagon were
behind the obstacle.
