Hi Jon,
This is a restatement of a prior question, under different conditions.
En En En En
______________
A A A A A <---Gully
______________
B B B B B
Both units (En) and (B) are 40 paces from gully occupied by unit (A). Unit
(A) force marched to gully, and is ambush. Since neither (B), nor (En) can see
(A), can (B) fire at (En) with missile weapons.

No.
And to try to head off all the possible variations of this, again, 8.7 contains
the sentence:
"No other overhead shooting is permitted, even if to or from a greater height."
This means that if you have an overhead shooting situation that does not appear
in the list right before this sentence, that situation is not permitted.

I'm sorry, what I meant was could the shooting occur if body A was not there
at all?

Yes. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

You do realize that leads to; "You can't shoot me because of the ambush I've
prepared".

Ancient/medieval bow fire was not so precise that all missiles shot from the
same group fell in the same spot. Very many would fall short. This is the
primary reason for the design of the overhead shooting rules as they pertain to
a third, friendly body intervening. The commanders of such units knew well
enough not to shoot their own people, even if some players would like to...lol.

No, the point is that the *enemy* cannot fire overhead, because of a
unit that they don't know exists. Odd.
"I'm firing at you"
"No, you can't"
"Why not?"
"I'm not telling you" :)

That is not true. The enemy can shoot at B. The question was the other way
around, unless I missed something.

Not to belabor the point and I'll drop the line after this...
I'm trying to resolve the enemy (En) not being able to shot B because A is
in the gully (with En not knowing A is there).

As I said in response to Ewan's mail, the enemy can shoot B. But I can see
where 8.7 could spell out better that it is, of course, only referencing
friendly troops shooting over head of friendly troops.
Enemy troops just have to abide by visibility and priority.
I do not think the question of what En could shoot ever came up, but if it did
and I missed it, I apologize.

Understand completely...B won't shoot since they might hits friendlies, En
shoots because they don't know/care.

Yes. En would shoot B whether A is in ambush or not as A is not visible to En.
