I have just posted the July 10 draft of the Warrior rules (MS Word 97 and
Text versions) to the egroup files area. Hey, I'm sure it is still July 10th
somwhere.
Despite my best efforts, and all my free waking minutes since March, it is
not a complete draft. All I can tell you is that you sent me HUNDREDS of
pages of stuff, and I read every word. Took longer than I expected. I am,
however, very pleased with the results to date. I cannot wait to be playing
THIS game.
The key rules (1.0 to 11.0 are 'done'), but it is important that you know
what is NOT finished:
--Most of the examples are not done. That is because they will be finished
when we write the COMPLETE EXAMPLE BATTLE, which will require an entire
weekend.
--1.1, 6.8, 13.0, 15.0, 16.0 and 17.0 are not complete.
--12.0 and 14.0 are still there, but I have not incorporated everything you
guys sent me yet.
--The play aids are not included in this draft.
What we need most from you folks is stuff like the following:
1. Check to make sure that a rules reference is to the correct rule. Also
make sure all the x.xx's are gone.
2. Make sure that when the rules use a particular term (body, unit, known,
very rough area, etc.) that is exactly what they are supposed to be saying.
I am off on my pilgrimage to Origins, Historicon and Gencon. I will have a
laptop/email ability over the next month, but will not be killing myself on
Warrior again until August. I WILL be available to talk (and play!) Warrior
at Hcon.
No need to rush to get anything to me until August 15th.
Take a moment when you can to ensure the egroup members list has your correct
name (not just email address) so I can give proper credit when the time comes.
On behalf of the Four Horsemen, thanks for your help.
Jon

When you charge, you may shoot with a rear rank of bow-armed lancers.
In subsequent bounds, you may not shoot with a rank eligible to fight (8.93),
so if the L are pursuing, they cannot shoot. If the L are not pursuing, they
can shoot.
Off to Columbus!!

Patrick pointed out that per 8.8 chargers can shoot in support with bow
from a rear rank. This has always been true and appears as no change.
However now that lances fight 2 ranks deeps, did you intend for the
second rank of L armed cav also armed with bow to shoot in support? We
have not been allowing this, but Patrick has a solid rule defended
point. I think the 2 ranks of lances is to compensate for the loss of
wedging. Troops on the leading edge of a wedge never could shoot in
support, but now they effectively can as the 2 extra figures from the
old wedge now come from the 2nd rank.
Example Body 1 6 EHK with L (Fuedal English). Body 2 6 EHC with L and B
(Yuan Mongol).
In WRG Body 1 would wedge and hit with 5 figures. Body 2 would hit with
3 figures and support shoot with 2.
In Warrior body 1 hits with 5 figures (3 front rank + 1/2 second rank).
Body 2 hits with 5 figures (same rationale) + support shoots with 2.
This does not seem right. The mongols (a non wedging army in the first
place) now get the "wedge bonus" and can still shoot with bow? Are we
missing something or was this the intent?

Wait a minute. Scott H told me at Historicon last year that bow-
armed lancers could not shoot from a rear rank when charging. Is
this just a clarification under Warrior? I'm not complaining, just
want to know what the rules will be at Historicon in the mini and
the NICT.

It's pretty obvious from the rules that "ranks which have not yet fought in
hth can support shoot with bow" or something to that effect.

What, me drunk during a game? Perish the thought. I think you
are still getting back at me for moving from Rochester and giving
you a less reliable source for garbage plates. ; ) Maybe I
misunderstood - yeah, that's it, the litigator misunderstood, not that
you were unclear or anything. ; 0

I too remember you saying that L,B troops in the second rank cannot
shoot due to the fact that they are eligible to fight. You may have said
something like "you can't have your cake and eat it too." This arguement
would have to carry over to LMI Jls,B,Sh who should then, by your ruling, be
able to fight a rank and a half, plus support shoot with 1/2 rear rank?
>Ugh. I'll endeavor to examine the rules minutely prior to next week.

Let's all be clear.
Today, in Warrior, a second rank of L,B that just charged can support shoot.
In WRG 7th it does READ that way, but it is up to Scott what actually happens
in WRG 7th NASAMW tourneys.
I have no intention of changing the Warrior rule unless the other Horsemen
'outvote' me.

He may well have said this but he would be wrong... note that I make no
comment on the likelihood of this latter ;)

I was apparently on drugs when making that ruling.
