This is a very little thing, but something that occured to me as I was
plunking down 400 bucks for 25mm figures and determining how long it would
take to paint them, given pretty exacting standards.

Could the four horsemen give us some assurance that old WRG 6th Edition and
NASAMW lists will be grandfathered through Historicon and NICT for 2001?

I would REALLY like to know .... :-)

Um, no? Lemme put it another way, as the new books are published, they will
supercede the old ones. Obviously not all the books will come out at once and
until the books come out, the old lists will still be useable. Our plan is to
publish two army list books along with WARRIOR rules, these being BIBLICAL
WARRIOR and DARK AGE WARRIOR. Thereafter, we'll publish an army list book
every 6 months or so.

What army lists do I turn to after DARK AGE WARRIOR? I dunno at this point.
I can tell you the absolute dead last two books I'll do are CLASSICAL WARRIOR
(Hoplites, Alex/Successor, Punic) and "ASIAN/ORIENTAL" WARRIOR (which will
contain most Asian lists--keep in mind that some "asian" lists will appear in
other books, primarily if they were opponents of armies in those Books).

My guess, and that's all it is right now, it that I'll either work on HOLY
WARRIOR (Crusaders, later Byzantines, Turkish crap, etc) or FEUDAL WARRIOR
(usual European knights and most likely stuff from eastern Europe/Russia and
possibly a couple of "asian" lists if they were adjacent and primarily fought
armies like, for example, Late Poles). Somewhere in this is IMPERIAL WARRIOR
(Marian Rome thru the end of the "official" Empire). Not to mention at some
point, the New World lists hafta get tossed in somewhere. There ain't enough
of them to warrant their own book (each army list book will contain between
34-40 army lists) so I'm just not sure as yet. Who knows by that point, we
might just make em available online, but I'm talking off the top of my head at
this point.

To summarize, here is the projected set of army list books for WARRIOR:

BIBLICAL WARRIOR
DARK AGE WARRIOR
HOLY WARRIOR
FEUDAL WARRIOR
IMPERIAL WARRIOR
CLASSICAL WARRIOR
ORIENTAL WARRIOR

Therefore, if you're setting down to paint Han Chinese, you have nothing to
worry about for 2 years:)SmileSmile I'm really sorry, I sympathize with the plight
of anyone 25mm at this point.

Scott

What Scott meant to say was that any list not covered by a published Warrior
list would be 'grandfathered'in NASAMW tourneys until the list was published.

As we plan on publsihing DARK AGE WARRIOR and BIBLICAL WARRIOR with the rules
this fall, those lists would supercede 7.6 or NASAMW lists for those armies in
Warrior tourneys next year.

The rules (the draft I have, anyway) have a section on converting from old lists
to facilitate the transition.

However, having seen some of the first two list books, they are not so radically
different from what is in the NASAMW lists to make me worry about starting work
on an army today.

Everyone has to make that call on their own, however.

Jon

It sounds like every set of rules I've ever had, in any period, since we
discovered the joy of army lists in the late 70's! - I can't figure whether
that deserves a smilie or a tear!! :-)

What did I miss? Is 25mm going to be unsupported after the Warrior

I think he's just referring to not knowing what the lists will look like in
their final form.

So there's the possibility that you may end up wasting a lot of money buying
stuff to fit one of the lists that's out now, only to find that it all
changes in a couple of years when the Warrior equivalent comes out.

Of course you can "suffer" this in other scales too, but it generally
doesn't cost quite as much!

Mike

I do recall building Early Swiss in the last days of Rev 6, only to see them
get really shot to hell in Rev 7.

It is not just that. I had a jar of black wash (opened!) in my other
hand too. I have taken my medication and I am much better now. Thanks
for talking me down.

Er, um, you didn't miss anything, I think. My point was that I sympathize
with anyone getting ready to plunk down big money for a 25mm army knowing in
the back of their mind that portions of it could be "worthless" if a new list
comes out. That's all:)SmileSmile In case anyone wasn't aware of the fact, two
horsemen, me and Jake Kovel, are HUGE 25mm players (aka "The One True Scale")
so we're always supporting the scale.

Scott

Not just two horsemen play 25mm, I just don't have as many 25mm armies as Scott
and Jake....

Let me tell you all that any list Scott writes, with changes so significant from
the existing versions that someone's current lead might be valueless, still has
to get past me!

Not to beat a dead horse, but it wouldn't KILL you guys to grandfather the
old list long enough for a player to get their army in order. Please try to
remember that many things in army lists are matters of personal preference
rather than anything historical, for example unit size. Requiring veteran
players to conform to all new lists is more likely than not a battle not
worth fighting.

We are all trying to recruit players to play Warrior right now and it will
be a very bad thing to get some new player to fork out a bunch of money for
troops that may end up not being used. Even the IDEA that this may happen
makes it look like your taking a, "my way or the highway", approach. If I
might be so bold as to suggest this, perhaps you might consider picking
battles that are really worth fighting .... K?
