Here is yet a different approach to running the L.Hoplite list. It is based
upon the discussion here. Please remember, I'm trying to run an otherwise
worthless tournament army to win, so I've set extreme goals for myself. will it
ever work, I doubt it. But I entend on having fun while trying to "polish a
turd" :)

Please feel free to make any commentary, as it is all helpful.

In this manifestation of the hoplites, I am leaning towards the manaple theory.
I will have less resistence, but I gain much greater ability to act and react
situationally. The LC remain in the list simply to allow me some form of rapid
response reserve. The MI and LMI are arrayed in checkerboard interspersed and
all starting in column with 120p between MI columns. On each end of the
battleline, I have another unit of MI to act as flank deterent. I will use the
LI to kill off enemy LI, as J/sh LI tend to crush B and S armed opponants
charging prompted out of skirmish. I upgraded everyone to "b" to lessen unease.

With the LC in reserve, you have a 24 element frontage. There doesn't seem to
be enough likelihood that you'll get enough blocking terrain to prevent your
flanks from getting turned.

>And, you still have no punch or counterpunch. I'd prefer some Spanish or Gauls
as a counterpunching force but this plays into Jon's thoughts regarding your
ability to get enough blocking terrain. Plus, your chances of playing against
Dry armies is fairly low, hence, no +1 for the terrain rolls which you'll need
for the blocking terrain Jon mentions. Even if you pull a Warm opponent, he
*might* be able to plop enough clear down you your side of the table to cause
problems.

>As one who is notorious for playing armies the require flank holding/blocking
terrain armies, I can attest to the problems one encounters when playing on a
billiard table. And if you then revert to the "hunker down" defense out their
on that vast and painfully open battlefield, you're back to where you started,
i.e., conceeding all initiative to the opponent who has a target rich
environment.
