Did the successor phalangites wear the linen cuirass like later hoplites?

I have some Old Glory figures that don't appear to be wearing metal
breastplates. I was figuring on white linen body armor, but I don't know and
don't have the proper Osprey books yet.

Oh, you like the Peter Connolly books. What is your stand on the heretical
"Macedonians" at Zama? Connolly has some nice paintings of mailed
phalangites. I know Phil Barker dismisses them out of hand. Will you have
any in the Later Carthaginian lists? And when will that book be out, O
Great List Ho?

I vaguely remember an article about the Macedonian tomb that has been
attributed to Philip (Alexanders father) which had some evidence for
metal armour plates that would have been incorporated into a
linen/leather corselet. So even if the armour does not look like a
metal cuirrass it might still be as tough.

Agreed! I think both Connoly's books and Osprey books have "pretty
pictures" but are flawed in many ways.

Anyone remember the so-called Carthaginian "light pike"?

IMHO I would stick with primary sources and would disavow most things
that couldn't be confirmed at least two or three times
as "unreliable" or "speculative".

In the end, however, it is a game and choices have to be made
somewhere along the line :)

Keep up the good work FHE.
